The assassination attempt on former President Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania Saturday will lead to the “further polarisation of Democrats and Republicans”, explained Political Analyst Dr. Alexandra Filippenko, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for US and Canadian Studies, Russian Academy of Science. She told FRANCE 24 that while far right and far left voters are likely to be affected by the event, swing voters – those who have yet to decide who to vote for - are meanwhile unlikely to be influenced, Dr. Filippenko said. "They usually look at the programs of the candidates, they don't look at who the candidates are personally. They are mostly interested in their policies." She adds that this "grave incident" might only increase polarisation on the opposite ends of the political scale.
