The recent political turmoil in France following President Macron's surprise announcement of early general elections is highlighting the “normalisation of far-right politics”, said Katy Brown, Postdoctoral Fellow at Maynooth University. As French media focuses on the recent ousting of The Republicans’ leader after a proposed alliance with the far right, Brown said more attention should be paid to the “mainstreaming of exclusionary politics with people at the sharp end of far-right politics suffering the consequences the most”.
