French President Emmanuel Macron's camp suffered a heavy defeat in EU elections at the hands of far-right party National Rally, which scored over double the number of Macron's centrist alliance, according to projections. At the party's headquarters, there is a "mixture of relief and disappointment", FRANCE 24's Claire Paccalin said, adding "relief that Valérie Hayer and her list has not come in third place but disappointment because there really wasn't much of a difference".
